About

BIO

Dr. Radhey Singhal obtained Ph.D. in 1962 from Lucknow University. Following his postdoctoral training as Research Associate at Indiana University School of Medicine (1962-64), he worked as an Instructor in the Department of Pharmacology (1964-65) at the Indiana University-Purdue University of Indiana (IUPUI) campus in Indianapolis. Throughout this period, he focused his research work on the molecular biology of diabetes and cancer.

From there, Dr. Singhal was recruited by the University of Ottawa in December, 1965, as a Lecturer. He quickly rose through the ranks and was promoted to Assistant Professor in July, 1966, Associate Professor in 1967, and then as full Professor of Pharmacology in 1972. He was then named Acting Head of the Department of Pharmacology in October, 1974, before being named Chairman in December, 1976. During his years at the University of Ottawa, Dr. Singhal’s research programs were consistently well funded with numerous grants from the Medical Research Council, Health and Welfare (Canada), the National Scientific and Engineering Research Council, the Ontario Mental Health Foundation, and the Ontario Cancer Research Foundation, Eli Lilly & Co, Indianapolis and The Upjohn Company, Kalamazoo.

In early 1992, Dr. Singhal moved back to Indiana University School of Medicine as a Visiting Professor of Experimental Oncology at the IUPUI Campus in Indianapolis where he remained until the end of October, 1994. Dr. Singhal then left the academic world to assume the title of Executive Director at Ranbaxy Research Laboratories in New Delhi to spearhead its New Drug Discovery Research (NDDR) endeavors. While at Ranbaxy, he secured millions in additional funding for the company’s efforts to discover new pharmaceutical molecules from the India Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

Dr. Singhal was instrumental in the dramatic increase in research intensity at every place he worked while simultaneously playing key roles in the establishment of broad-based strategy initiatives. Because of his many leadership roles, Dr. Singhal became an internationally-recognized presence as the force behind many highly respected research programs in diabetes, cancer and mental health disorders. Many of these studies focused on defining alterations in signaling pathways and regulatory events that resulted in various disease states. In his field of interest, he consistently sought to answer the fundamental questions involving biochemical pharmacology, neuropharmacology, neuroendocrinology, toxicology and the biology of cancer and diabetes. He also focused much of his efforts on research programs designed to better understand the physiopathology of various diseases and for developing novel therapeutics for their treatment.

Dr. Singhal was a member of 27 different national/international pharmacology and biochemistry societies. He served as Founding Vice-President, and eventually as President of the Canadian College of Neuropsychopharmacology (CCNP) from 1980-82. He also served as member or chairman of numerous editorial boards and granting bodies, and established an extensive network in conjunction with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) laboratories, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), and many universities and medical schools.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Singhal published 498 scientific papers, edited nine books, and wrote 44 review articles and book chapters mostly as a senior investigator. He received a Medical Research Council Scholarship, the John Dewan Award, and Albert Nelson Marquis’ “Who’s Who in America” Lifetime Achievement Award. He has been a featured speaker and presenter at hundreds of academic and industry seminars, conferences, and collaborative projects. More recently, he was an invited faculty member for the first United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)-sponsored training course on Combinatorial Technology and Drug Discovery in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and in Trieste, Italy.

In April, 2022, Dr. Singhal was selected as one of 75 leading Indo-Canadian Personalities for the “Jewels of India” Maneesh Media Publication Coffee Table Series.

Dr. Singhal is currently serving as a member of the White Coat Cabinet for the Community Advisory Committee at the Brain and Mind Research Institute, University of Ottawa.

In addition to an extremely accomplished career in scientific academia, Dr. Singhal enjoyed an equally successful second career in real estate. He received virtually every certification available at the time for proficiency in and knowledge of unique and highly nuanced real estate markets. In particular, he became so well-versed and accomplished in the area of helping distressed home sellers during financial downturns that he earned the name, “Dr. Short Sales.”

Dr. Singhal has received all manner of awards and honors for his performance and exemplary service to both buyers and sellers. During his years with Coldwell Banker he was repeatedly honored as a President Elite or President Premiere agent. He was also named ‘The House Values Agent of the Year 2007’ by HouseValues.com and Minnesota Certified Residential Specialist of the Year 2010. Throughout his tenure in Minnesota real estate, he also served as Treasurer, Vice-President, and ultimately President of the Minnesota Certified Residential Specialists Association. He became a graduate of the Certified Residential Specialist’s National Leadership Academy in 2012.

Dr. Singhal is known throughout the real estate world having served clients across the United States and Canada for more than 20 years. And yet, despite his tremendously accomplished career in real estate, it is his research contributions, honors, and advancements in academics that have brought him the most fulfillment. The opportunity to mentor future scientists and affect the field of pharmacology has afforded him opportunities beyond belief and relationships that have lasted a lifetime.

At the heart of Dr. Singhal’s life has been a consistent faith in God. Since an early age and throughout every major event of his life, Dr. Singhal has felt God’s presence and comfort. His faith has guided him and his family throughout some of life’s most difficult circumstances; it has also led them to glorious times of joy and happiness. Dr. Singhal’s walk of faith has served him without fail throughout his life and continues to inspire an ever-deepening sense of gratitude for a life of such opportunity.
